MODEL SPECIFICATION

Model Specification For Tank Temperature Maintenance Systems

(non hazardous locations)

In order to maintain the contents of the tank at their optimum temperature a THERMOLAR Tank Heating System manufactured by CalorIQue consisting of flexible panel type heating elements will be installed. The system will be custom designed to provide the correct amount of heat to offset heat loss and to maintain the desired liquid temperature. The contractor shall provide a THERMOLAR panel type heating system to be attached to the outside shell of the tank. -To prevent localized scorching of the tank contents and to minimize the heat intensity on the skin of the tank, the heating system must provide uniformly distributed heat to the tank. The THERMOLAR heating system shall consist of elements of heating panels having a heat output of not more than 0.30 W/in.2 / 500 W/m2. Tubular heating elements, strip heaters and cable systems are not acceptable.

-The heating elements shall be THERMOLAR flexible panels that will accurately conform to the shape of the tank and shall be adhered to the outside skin of the tank with the self-stick adhesive provided as part of the system.

-The heating elements shall consist of multiple individual heating panels operating in parallel within the heating element. Damage to any one or more of the individual panels should not affect the performance of any other panel. The heating elements shall be fully grounded to prevent accidental shock in the event of a puncture of the heating element.

-The THERMOLAR heating system shall be controlled by two separate thermostats. Tank temperature maintenance shall be controlled by a thermostat that shall be field settable through the range of 40°F/5°C to 160°F/70°C. The temperature maintenance thermo-sensor shall be mounted against the outer skin of the tank at approximately the same level as the lowest heating panel. A high-limit temperature thermostat to control the maximum temperature of the skin of the tank will be preset not to allow the temperature to exceed 195°F/90°C. The high-limit thermo-sensor shall be mounted against the highest heating element on the tank and shall shut off all of the heating panels in the event that an over-limit temperature is reached.

-All controls, indicators & switches shall be mounted inside a NEMA 4 rated control box. The control box shall be mounted on the outer shell of the tank at least 48"/1.2m above the base of the tank.

-The entire area of the sides and top of the tank shall be insulated with a minimum of 2"/50mm of rigid spray applied insulation (or other suitable insulation), having a thermal resistivity of not less than R14. If possible the bottom of the tank should be insulated.

-The contractor shall provide a 2 year warranty on the completed heating unit installation. CalorIQue will provide a 2 year warranty on all components of the THERMOLAR heating system.

-All components of the heating system outside of the control box shall be electrically insulated & sealed so as not to be affected in the event of inadvertent exposure to moisture.

-Field connections or junctions are only permitted inside of the control box.

-The control box shall provide indicators showing power to the control box and on/off indicators for power being supplied to the heating elements.

-CalorIQue shall supply complete operating instructions for the THERMOLAR system as well as electrical circuit drawings for the controls and heating panels.

-CalorIQue will upon request of the contractor provide technical assistance regarding installation and operation of the THERMOLAR heating system.

-All components of the THERMOLAR heating system must be supplied by CalorIQue Ltd. to ensure compatibility and optimum performance of the system. Changes to the components, installation or insulation of the THERMOLAR heating system shall only be made with the written permission of CalorIQue.

-The tank design engineer will provide sufficient data regarding the location of the tank, its contents and desired temperature to enable the THERMOLAR heating system to be designed specifically for the tank. CalorIQue will provide a custom design of the THERMOLAR heating element system for the tank based upon the information provided by the engineer.
